Pottery Class POTTERY
Monday 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Tutor: Peter Garland
A popular class that caters for all levels - from beginners to advanced. Everyone is welcome. Most students start with basic clay moulding and modelling but can then go on make use of additional tools for shaping, rolling, cutting/piercing and finishing. Pots and bowls are glazed and fired in the kiln at the Winkfield Centre. Volunteers are on hand to give one to one support and to demonstrate different techniques.
Braille Class
Tuesday 10.30am to 12.30pm
Tutor: Barbara Kiers
Complete beginners are most welcome in this class where both Braille Grade 1 and Braille Grade 2 are taught. Perkins Braille typewriters are used. Grade 1 covers letters, punctuation and figures while Grade 2 uses abbreviations and short forms of words.

Arts and Crafts ARTS AND CRAFTS
Tuesday 1.00pm to 3.00pm
Tutor: Peter Garland
A wide variety of arts and crafts are offered in this class, ranging from bead and basket work to rug making and weaving. Pupils are encouraged to choose an activity that they feel comfortable with and is most suitable for their degree of sight loss. This class has a particularly high ratio of volunteers to pupils, often on a one to one basis.

Knitting Class
Wednesday 11.00am to 1.30pm
Tutor: Linda Marshall
This class caters for all levels of knitters - and all levels of sight loss. Scarves, blankets, waistcoats and cardigans are produced with guidance and help from the tutor.

Wednesday 2.00pm to 3.00pm
Tutor: Maggie Govinder
Easy to follow instructions from the tutor guide the pupils through a simple exercise programme designed to work the entire body from head to toe. Raising heart rate and breaking sweat are all part of the class, however it should be stressed that members of this class are instructed to work within their ability.

Wednesday 9.30am to 11.30am and 12.00pm to 2.00pm
Tutor: Cesar Folla
With the use of Azabat and Supernova (speech and image magnification systems) blind and partially sighted students are able to make full use of computers at the Haringey Phoenix Group. In addition, there are CCTV magnifiers to assist with reading documents. The courses cover keyboard skills, internet and email - as well as Microsoft's Word programme. They are designed to take into account the abilities and needs of the students, who are assessed before starting each course.
